WHAT’S UP?

JUNE 2009

Well there has been quite a bit happening here at Concorde over the last few months!

We are PERFORMANCE WHEELS and are very proud to have been given the opportunity by Ed and the team in Adelaide to represent this famous brand in New Zealand.  We have worked hard on tidying up a number of loose ends from the past and put in place a sustainable ordering cycle.  We are up to our 9th Shipment already since we began in December 2008.

When we add the Speedy range of blank wheels (Sirocco, Victory and Cross 5) we have the largest range of drilling options in New Zealand, without any doubt - so if you've got a "hard to find wheel solution" then you need to talk to us!

SPEEDY WHEELS Collection 9 - the latest Speedy Brochures and price list is out now and all you need to do is "click" at the appropriate place elsewhere in this Newsletter to either download yourself or e-mail us and we'll send all our catalogues to you.  Speedy have now really taken their range to a whole new level - wheels like Razor, Vapor, and Baja set new standards in wheel design, looks and finish.

STEEL KINGS - we remain committed to our growing 4X4/RV/SUV and Ute customer base with the biggest range of quality Steel Wheels - and now increasingly we are able to offer alloy solutions for Landrover, Ford Transit, Bedford and others plus a huge range of Wheels for Caravans and Trailers.

Also by combining Speedy and Performance we've got more caps, nuts, locknuts etc than you can poke a stick at!

Seriously we have just about every type of cap imaginable - so just give us a call for all these accessory items.  We of course still have MOMO for those special needs.

LIKE A ONE ARMED PAPER HANGER!

Nathan is on an extended period of ACC.  Please be patient and if I don't answer straight away please just click on to my cellphone (you need to wait for the connection).  I know it's a pain talking to "machines".

Despite all the "telecommunications" talk about Broadband, T3, 3G20 etc - we still can't get the one solution that will improve things dramatically for small business - the mobile landline ... but it's coming I am told so until then please be patient.

Our aim remains to serve our customers to our best ability and continue to offer quality products and Alloy & Steel Wheel solutions.

Regards Dominic

A steep learning curve for sure - but we are now more or less settled into a routine for orders as follows:

ORDER CYCLE - we have orders with the factory "open" for around:

1. 20 days or so (that's the time from the first order received in the cycle and when we close for shipping).

2. All order wheels are manufactured "TO ORDER" and include drilling and all special requests - finish, bore size, steel inserts or whatever is required.  We will supply blank wheels only if requested to.

3. Supplies in the main depend on the availability of "castings".  RULE OF THUMB - If castings are available delivery is around 30 days.   If castings are NOT available then delivery will be around 30 days from when castsings become available.

4. All orders need to be confirmed and signed off - this is for your protection as well as ours! Many people are familiar with the Classic Wheels.

OFFSET VS BACK SPACE
WHO CARES?   WE DO!

Two questions we get asked a lot:

"What's the back space of the wheel"
                OR
"I need a 40P (or 30, 35, 45 whatever) wheel"

Although both methods are valid measurements they are not the same thing.

We prefer the BACK SPACE method as it keeps the vehicle track in focus as well.

The critical information therefore is the original spec of the vehicle so that we can easily determine what the conversion is likely to be:

13X4.5 ET24 = 97mm
SAY
BACK SPACE
so a 15X6 ET09 = 97mm
BACK SPACE
A 15X6 ET27 = 115mm Back space.

Therefore it is important to be mindful of the BACK SPACE requirements at all times and to note that an ET35 wheel may be relevant in one size but not so much in another size.

QUICK TYRE OD CHECK

If we know the original wheel size (width and offset) we can easily calculate the conversion by using the BACK SPACE method.

Similarly if we know the original tyre size we can work out the tyre size for a different sized rim.

165R13 = 165 X .80 X 2 = 266mm
13" = (25.4) = 330mm
Overall Diameter = 596

When selecting tyres to match rims you simply keep this "OD" in mind.

A TIP FOR STEEL WHEELS

If you want the finish to last longer -

1.  Clean the hubs and studs with "Rust Kill"
2.  Always fit a new set of Wheel Nuts
3.  Polish the rims with TURTLE WAX*

FEEDBACK

My Morris Minor Van is a 1969 powered by a BMC 1300cc A series motor.  Spears Racing alloy inlet manifold with a 28/36 dcd Weber carb, Coby LCB extractors going into 2" pipe before muffler then 1 1/2" through to Coby tailpipe. Electronic ignition.

Interior is standard with the exception of a Sony CD/radio with 150 watt box speakers hanging in the back, ammeter, temperature and oil pressure triple gauge set and an Indy Momo wooden steering wheel.

Exterior has tinted windows, aluminium mesh grille and my one off, world first, set of Performance Alloy Wheels. Challenger style, 15x4" fronts with 145/65x15 Bridgestones and 15x7" rears with 195/55x15 Firestone Supercats.

These wheels were a first for Performance Wheels, Australia as they had not manufactured them before to fit a Morris Minor.  After many emails and discussion with Dominic from Speedy Wheels, Wellington, the outcome was nothing but 100% satisfaction for all parties involved.

Being a recent member of the Auckland Morris Minor Car Club brings enjoyment when on club runs and rallies not only to myself but to many onlookers who give the thumb up and great comments about the van.

Alloy wheels for Morris Minors are just about non existent, with old school 13" Cheviots sometimes off Vauxhall Vivas and the Minilite/Superlite style the only options available but everyone has them.

I wanted something different and that's what I got, and I'm thoroughly satisfied.

If your looking to give your vehicle that little bit different look, I recommend getting in touch with Dominic and discussing what options are available for you. He will see ya right.
